May main supplier for my DVB equipment is Hauppauge.com.

This is the only fitting newsgroup I found: alt.video.satellite.mpeg-dvb, FAQ are provided.

2.1.1.1. DVB-C = Digital Video Broadcasting / Through Cable

I'm not sure, whether I will ever need that, as I already have DVB-S and DVB-T equipment.

2.1.1.2. DVB-S = Digital Video Broadcasting / Through Satellite

I got some hardware and software from Hauppauge.com. My satellite dish has 2 LNB-s and a DISEC switch mounted. I already have a Philips satellite decoder with a long list of channels programmed. I keep struggling with the channel list of my Hauppauge satellite decoder.

I had to learn, that there is also pre-DVB (analogous) TV and radio broadcasting.

2.1.1.3. DVB-T = Digital Video Broadcasting / Terrestrial, i.e. through an aerial

I purchased some equipment from Hauppauge.com around 2002/2003 (a PCI card and a USB box with Windows software), as in Berlin they stopped broadcasting TV channels analogously in early 2003.

It lets me record the TV stream on file as MPEG2 with a resolution of 768x576. I tried to cut an S-VCD (with a 20 minutes / 400 MB video sequence from www.KiKa.de) from that. PAL S-VCD only allows a maximum resolution of 352x288, and the cutting software didn't downsize the resolution by itself, so I wasn't lucky with that attempt.
